Introducing Shool—known by the Dutch as sjoelen or sjoelbak, a traditional game that the people of the Netherlands have enjoyed for many years. The game may also be known as Dutch shuffleboard, English shuffleboard. People also mistake it for shove halfpenny or shove ha'penny. We have anglicised the Dutch spelling to arrive at our name of Shool.
Shool can be played by anyone, of any age, at any level from "just for fun" to competition standard and is a quickly addictive, wonderfully entertaining fundraiser and great for parties too.
Shool is a game that will stay in your family for generations. Each board has been hand-made to last using attractive timbers while following our policy of avoiding tropical hardwoods.
The model we make is a 5-star board made in solid oak with both upper and lower edges moulded. The board includes 32 discs (30 plus two spares) and a booklet of the full rules translated from the original Dutch. Groups, clubs or pubs may find useful our 24" x 17" (60cm x 43cm) fully-laminated wall chart with rules summary—available as an optional extra. Price £7.50.
Our Shool boards conform strictly to the official specifications of the National Association in the Netherlands for this game (Algemene Nederlandse Sjoelbond). You will note that, uniquely, our board is strutted across the underside to give added strength and stability. Also the oak we use is solid wood, not laminated or ply, and selected for its quality and appearance. These features are special to the Sagem Crafts boards and often absent from versions of sjoelbak offered by other vendors.
